WW2 Chapter 23 - A Letter to His Brother (June 1944)

Dave with Blackie & Pete, 1943
For many years, Franklin affectionately called his brother "Snodgrass" and, in return, Dave called him "Watty."

6/6/44

Dear Snodgrass,

     Your three letters between the end of April and the end of May -- have all arrived most at once.
     ~~~
     It was probably a good idea to move the setting hen into that small house. The "summer" house is much too airy -- am quite sure that's one reason why the hen broke up".
     ~~~
     Understand you are quite a rapid turtle-catcher.
     ~~~
     Mom sent me a couple of swell pictures of you with Black and Pete -- and it appears that they are sort of overcoming you. (Are you taller than Pete, yet?)
     ~~~
     Saw Joe DiMaggio play last Sunday; -- he is in the 7th A.A.F. (air force). Yes, -- and he also made a home run. When I'm home again, we'll have to take in a few games; -- there are quite a few other things we must do ---

     That's all for now, Snodgrass ---

Much love, Franklin
